Why Families Should Book Their Cruise Early (And Why Having a Travel Advisor Matters)

If there's one piece of advice I could give every family planning a cruise, it's this:

Book early.

This week, I worked with several families planning their vacations, and it reminded me why booking early makes such a difference—especially for larger families.

Did I figure it out?

Absolutely.

That's my job.

I enjoy solving those puzzles.

But if we had started planning earlier, those families would have had more cabin choices, more flexibility, and probably better pricing.

That's exactly where a travel advisor adds value.

Every Cabin Isn't Built the Same

One of the biggest misconceptions people have is that every cruise cabin accommodates the same number of guests.

That's simply not true.

Some cabins are designed for:

  • 2 guests

  • 3 guests

  • 4 guests

  • 5 guests

  • 6 guests

If your family has five or six people, your choices become much more limited because only a small number of cabins are built to accommodate larger families.

Once those cabins are booked...

They're gone.

Large Family Cabins Sell Out First

The first cabins to disappear are often:

  • Cabins that sleep five or six guests

  • Connecting cabins

  • Adjacent cabins

  • Family suites

If you're traveling during:

  • Summer vacation

  • Spring Break

  • Thanksgiving

  • Christmas

  • New Year's

those rooms can sell out months before sailing.

Cruise Line Policies Matter

Every cruise line has policies regarding children and cabin assignments.

Depending on the ages of the children and the cruise line you're sailing, parents may need to be assigned between separate cabins in order to meet the cruise line's booking requirements.

Every cruise line is different.

One of my responsibilities is understanding those policies so you don't run into surprises during the booking process.

This Was My Biggest Challenge This Week

Finding a cruise wasn't difficult.

Finding the right cruise was.

My challenge was finding cabins that were:

  • Right next to each other

  • Connecting

  • Across the hall

  • On the same deck

Those are the details booking websites don't solve for you.

They'll show you what's available.

I help you figure out what's best.

Why Booking Early Gives You More Choices

Booking early isn't just about getting a lower price.

It gives you:

  • Better cabin choices

  • Better cabin locations

  • More connecting cabin options

  • More family cabin availability

  • Better promotions

  • More time to budget and make payments

In short...

It gives you options.

The Value of Having a Travel Advisor

One thing I want people to understand is this:

I love solving travel problems.

If you're booking late, I'll still do everything I can to find the best possible option for your family.

That's part of what I enjoy.

But my goal isn't just to solve problems.

My goal is to help you avoid them in the first place.

That's why I encourage clients to start planning early.

The earlier we begin, the more opportunities we have.

You're Not Just Booking a Cruise

When you work with me, you're getting more than someone who clicks "Book Now."

You're getting someone who:

  • Understands cruise line policies

  • Knows cabin layouts

  • Looks for the best cabin combinations

  • Helps explain your options

  • Answers your questions

  • Finds solutions when things get complicated

Booking online gives you a reservation.

Working with a travel advisor gives you a strategy.

Think Beyond This Summer

If you already know your family likes to travel during school breaks...

Start planning now.

Think about next summer.

Or even the summer after that.

Cruise lines release itineraries well in advance, and the families who plan ahead almost always have the best selection.

Final Thoughts

I love helping families plan vacations.

Whether you're traveling as a couple or with six people, I'm here to help you navigate the process and make it as smooth as possible.

Could you book it yourself?

Absolutely.

But if I can help you find better cabins, better options, avoid common mistakes, and take some of the stress off your plate...

Why wouldn't you?

The earlier we start planning, the more opportunities we have to build the vacation your family deserves.

Turning travel wishes into reality—one family vacation at a time.
